Glossary
Layback Correction: Adjustment of the transceiver’s position relative to the platform towing the sonar system. By accounting for the tow distance and the angle to the transceiver, this correction allows for more accurate location mapping of underwater features.
LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging): Active remote sensing sensor technique which uses laser pulses to create three-dimensional data points. Based on the time it takes for a laser pulse to reflect from a target and be returned to the receiver and the angle of the pulse, it is possible to accurately determine the distance to the ground. Also known as Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) or Laseraltimetry.
